"SR-71 & Sum 41 Duke It Out In Tennessee"
SR-71 may be pretty, but other bands apparently shouldn't call them pretty boys to their faces. The band's crew and possibly members of the band itself were involved in an altercation with members of Sum 41 in a Tennessee hotel after the singer of Sum 41 made disparaging remarks about SR-71 frontman Mitch Allan.
Both bands performed at Buzzfest 2000 in Nashville September 14. During Sum 41's set, its singer, Deryck (aka Bizzy Dee), took a few pot shots at Allan by questioning the SR-71 singer's sexuality and playing the band's hit "Right Now" with altered lyrics.
Reports from the Sum 41 camp say that Sum 41 offered SR-71 a beer back at the hotel as a peace offering after hearing SR-71 was offended. It was refused, then Deryck and Allen then proceeded to duke it out.
SR-71 tells a different story. According to Allan and crew, they were in the hotel bar when a member of Sum 41 got into their faces of with a video camera. Only after Sum 41's singer spit on the shoes of SR-71's soundman and a girl at the bar did a fight occur. The SR-71 crew gave the singer and drummer for Sum 41 a beating, but a statement by the band's publicist says at no time were the members of SR-71 involved in the fight.
An interesting sidelight to this whole incident: Greg Nouri, Sum 41's manager, is a member of Treble Charger, which was dropped by RCA Records, SR-71's label.

Electric Youth Sum41 Have The Last Laugh... Ha Ha Ha~SPIN~
Sum41 are a poppy punk group yhat like a cross between Canadian teen medlodrama "Degrassi" and "Blink 182," with whom they're currently touring. Their latest album, "All Killer No Filler," is in more teens' bedrooms than gravity bongs. When not performing, Sum41 enjoy throwing things at people. - William Van Meter
Spin: In your video for "Fat Lip," they's a scene of a girl dancing. I can't tell if she's suburban-breakdancing or race-dancing.
Deryck "Bizzy D" (guitar and vocals): She's breakdancing.
Steve "Stevo32" Jocz (drums and vocals): She was probably the only atractive girl at the shoot. When we were there it was just a bunch of ugly guy fans. We filmed the video in Pomona, California, which was the first place we had a following. We're from Toronto, and the only place we had fans was Pomona.
Why have you gone through ten bass players?
Stevo32: Some sucked, some were annoying, some were assholes. This guy Grant we kicked out just for fun. Then we took him back; then we fired him again. We used to go out every weekend after guys left the band and egg their houses. We got Grant, like, 20 times.
Were people fighting to sit at the lunch table with you in high school because you were in a rock band?
Stevo32: We were not cool compared with the other kids. But who's cool now, motherfucker? Look what I do for a living! How's it going at the factory?
So being Sum41 wasn't the key to getting poontang?
Stevo32: No, the poontang doors were slamming in my face. Look at me now! I got two girls with me right now!
You do?
Stevo32: No, two girls just walked by, and I looked at them.
